with Design Excellence Emphasis on Design Skills Workshop

Handmade Product Design Workshop

Two-day Handmade Product Design Workshop, held under the joint collaboration of the Bhartiya Gramotthan Sanstha, Dhalwala and the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, local artisans learned new approaches and techniques in design. The session focused on enhancing the design proficiency of artisans, aiming to make handcrafted products more appealing and market-ready through creative innovation and design thinking.

  • The workshop was jointly inaugurated by NABARD Deputy General Manager Mr. Ravidass and the Chairperson of the organization, Mrs. Geeta Chandola.
  • On this occasion, participating artisans received hands-on training focused on enhancing the attractiveness of products made from Bhimlal (Grewia optiva), Kandali (Himalayan nettle), and jute. The aim was to equip artisans with modern design techniques to elevate the aesthetic appeal of their natural fibre handicrafts.
  • Workshop facilitator and designer Ms. Sonal Chauhan emphasized the importance of incorporating Uttarakhand’s cultural identity into handmade products. She stated, “If traditional designs of Uttarakhand are blended with modern elements, they can become a unique attraction for tourists. Symbolic products connected to spiritual destinations like Rishikesh are in high demand in the market.”

The core objective of this initiative is to empower local artisans, enabling them to become self-reliant and to help their products gain recognition at national and international levels. On this occasion, several dignitaries and stakeholders were present, including Mr. Madhuban Pangti, Manager at NABARD; Ms. Ameesha Bajpai and Ms. Vinita Oswal from the National Institute of Design (NID); Mr. Anil Chandola, the organization’s coordinator; Mr. Narendra Kukshal, Public Relations Officer; Mrs. Beena Pundir; Mr. Ankit Rawat, and others.
